Online Revit Training for Architects by Architects

Black Spectacles’ online Revit training for architects is the most relevant and flexible way to learn BIM.

There is so much talk about BIM and Revit these days, that the transformation of the profession from CAD seems to be in full swing.  Many students, architects and firms are searching for Revit training so they can stay ahead of the competition, yet in talking to students, deans, architects, and firm leaders its really obvious that there isn’t a good way to learn Revit, and other architecture design software.  Black Spectacles has recently launched 5 courses in Revit Architecture that are taught…

The Un-Competition Project Winning Entries, Interviews & Jury Comments

The goal for the Un-Competition Project was to compile a group of stories about architects who exhibited “design entrepreneurship”- taking the initiative to find a design problem and trying to solve it- in order to inspire and teach others how to take action themselves. The submissions that we received exceeded this goal by not only showing us why and how to take action, but by also challenging conventions of program, collaboration, funding, design, and media for conveying our ideas.

The World Serve Project invited young architects to self fund both a trip to Mexico and the materials they purchase…

“Activate” Competition: Design it & Build it for under $1,000

Architecture for Humanity Chicago Launches “Activate” Design Competition to design & build a small scale intervention at a Chicago Public School, entries are due February 29, 2012

Free Black Spectacles Day at University of Illinois at Chicago

We just finished up our Free Black Spectacles day at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

We did something special and did a 1 hour high level tutorial of Revit Architecture. This overview shows the basic tools, how to set up views and sheets, and how to print.  Here is the Revit File we developed of a house.  Here is the pdf we printed of our sheet, and the video of the tutorial is below. Enjoy!

Mission

The adoption of digital technologies has been slow and un-even in the Profession of Architecture despite their advantages in efficiency, quality, and access to creative languages that are not available otherwise. The main reason for this is a lack of access to flexible, affordable and high quality courses in design technology.

We have built Black Spectacles to be the online platform for learning architecture software, with memberships that are affordable, with a platform that provides the flexibility that architects need, and with courses that not only cover software, but how to use multiple digital tools together to get the job done.

Black Spectacles’ mission is to advance the creative potential of the profession of architecture by giving everyone access to all of the tools- in order to change the dialogue from “what tools are you using” to “what are you doing with the tools”.
